If you are hiring a car with Hertz, we can offer you car hire excess insurance to cover you against any Hertz excess charges you may incur if your hire car is damaged or stolen.
How does Hertz’s Car Hire Insurance work?
When you hire a car with Hertz, your insurance policy will usually include the following as standard:
- Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
- Theft Protection (TP)
- Third party liability (always included)
All rentals are subject to a non-waivable excess, an amount you are liable for in the event the hire car is damaged or stolen. Both Collision Damage Waiver and Theft Protection come with a mandatory excess amount. The excess amount varies by location and the type of car rented. Hertz excess charges can cost between £1000 and £5000.
Additional cover such as Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) can be purchased as an optional extra. The daily cost for this varies depending on the vehicle group. Glass and Tyre cover is not included, however can be added from £9 per day. This covers damage to the windscreen, driver and passenger windows and any punctured tyres.
What Excess Reduction products does Hertz offer direct?
You can reduce your financial liability towards the excess amount or remove it completely by choosing to purchase one of Hertz’ excess reduction products. These products, however, can only be purchased at the time of pick up at the rental desk and not online.
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is an excess product which reduces your financial liability to Hertz if your hire car is damaged.
Theft Protection (TP) is an excess product which reduces your financial liability to Hertz in the event of damage or loss to your hire car due to theft or attempted theft.
Super Cover is an excess product which reduces your financial liability to zero*, meaning there is no excess to pay if the hire car** is damaged by collision or theft. This can cost between £14.62 and £42.14 per day for a UK rental.
* Varies on country, for example in Denmark, Norway and Portugal the excess is reduced but is not eliminated.
** Super cover isn’t available for all car groups.
